About us

J. Roberts & Co. was founded in 1950 by my father, Joseph Roberts. I joined the company in 1959 and by the mid 1970’s, in addition to dealing in pre-owned guns and rifles, we started manufacturing fine new rifles and shotguns.

In 1984 we amalgamated with John Rigby & Co – Britain’s longest established rifle makers – and assembled our own team of gunsmiths.

By 1990 we were producing upwards of forty guns a year, specialising in large calibre double-barreled and bolt-action rifles, stalking rifles, and ‘best’ grade shotguns. In 1997 the Rigby name was sold to an US gunmaker while we continued to produce fine guns under the J Roberts & Son brand for our traditional big-game hunting and game-shooting market.

In 2000 we acquired the sole manufacturing rights for WJ Jeffery & Co, one of Britain's most innovative gunmakers – having introduced some of the most popular big-game calibres such as the .404 and .500 Jeffery.

In addition to producing a full range of our own new guns and rifles, we are the sole UK agents for Arrizabalaga – Spain’s finest gunmaker. We are also main distributors of Battista Rizzini – one of Italy’s premier gunmakers who specialises in O/U shotguns and double rifles.

We also carry a wide selection of pre-owned English guns and the best pre-owned continental guns of all types.

Our aim is simple: to supply the finest sporting guns and rifles available in the world today. Please take time to explore our website or better still, visit our London showrooms which benefit from private off-street parking.

Paul Roberts
Chairman
J. Roberts & Son (Gunmakers) Ltd

Paul Roberts
Chairman

Started by his father in the 1950's, the company has thrived since Paul took over several decades ago. Nothing happens at Roberts Gunmakers without Paul's knowledge. Every design of new weapon and every order goes through him, such is his desire for perfection. For this reason, customers get a very personal effect when dealing with the company, knowing that they are not just another sale, but are involved in an important deal which is taken very seriously. Paul even tests every gun at the range, whether it is new or has just been repaired: this is the personal touch that the Chairman delivers, unseen in many other businesses of the same trade. His outstanding knowledge of every type of shooting, worldwide, helps Roberts Gunmakers continue as a successful English Gun Dealer.

David Marx
Co-Director

David was the former Chairman and owner of Rigby's for many years before their amalgamation with J. Roberts & Son when he became Co-Director with current Chairman, Paul Roberts. David maintains his position today, specialising in the accounts department, even though guns are now made under the W.J. Jeffery & Co. name.

John Resteghini
Manager

John has been with J. Roberts & Son since 1978, with a transfer to William Evans between 1990 and 2004. His enormous experience in the gun trade is an overwhelming asset to the company. His efficiency with the books and his constant striving for perfection with the guns endears him to all the customers. He specialises in all areas of the trade.

Patty Pugh
Rigby Safaris

Patty, as well as striving to look after the Chairman outside of office hours, runs the Rigby Safaris side of the business and helps in the office during the busier times of the year.

Paul Willis
Top Gunmaker

Paul has been with the company for many years and specialises in new gunmaking, although his expertise extends to all areas of gun repairs. Both Paul Roberts and John Resteghini rely strongly on his advice for new gun design and major repair and restoration work.

Mark Remnant
Gunsmith

Mark has worked for Roberts Gunmakers for some 25 years. Specialising in the wood side of gun-making, he is generally another all-rounder although restorations and gun-fitting are a forte.

Karim Dafallah
Gunsmith

Karim is another all-rounder in the workshop, although barrels and other areas of metalwork are his strong points. He has also been working for J. Roberts and Son for many years. Repairs, general services and making new bolt rifles are his speciality.

Chris Coates
Gunsmith

Chris, like all the other gunsmiths, has been with the company for many years. Specialising in all barrel related work, he also does small bits of engraving and re-blueing, and a certain amount of action work.
